Walking in the Word: 365 Steps with God (How I’m Tackling a Year of Bible Reading -- Inspired by a 10-Year-Old!)
Be inspired by a 10-year-old’s faith and the start of a 365-day Bible reading journey. Reflect on key lessons from Genesis, God’s love, and practical insights for moms reconnecting with their faith.
Day 1: Creation and God’s Goodness
A Journey Inspired by Chloe
A few days ago, my sister called me and shared something that made my heart swell with pride. My ten-year-old niece, Chloe, told her she wanted to start reading the Bible—not the children’s version, but the real one. You know, the big, hefty book that even we adults sometimes find a little intimidating.
I couldn’t stop smiling. Chloe’s heartfelt desire reminded me of something I’d let slip through my fingers: my own promise to deepen my faith by reading the Bible daily.
During the pandemic, I resolved to read the Bible every day. For a while, it was wonderful—mornings filled with scripture and a renewed sense of peace. But by March, life got in the way, and that promise quietly faded into the background.
Then, recently, I attended a Gold Call webinar through the Truly Rich Club, and the speaker mentioned something that sparked my interest: The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz), which I later found out was available through the Ascension app. It felt like God was nudging me to try again. With Chloe’s enthusiasm as my inspiration, I’m ready to begin this journey anew.
One of my goals for 2025 is to complete 365 days of Bible reading. When I shared this with Chloe, I promised her we’d walk this journey together, reflecting on what we had learned.
But this isn’t just for Chloe and me. I’m sharing these reflections here to invite YOU to join us. Whether you’re starting your own Catholic Bible reading plan, exploring Genesis for beginners, or simply seeking inspiration to reconnect with your faith, this blog is a space for you.
Dear Chloe,
Hi, sweetheart!
I’m so excited that you want to read the Bible. That’s a beautiful decision, and I’m proud of you for taking this first step! Reading the Bible isn’t just about learning the stories, it’s about discovering how much God loves us and how we’re part of His incredible plan.
(Speaking of plans, moms, isn’t it amazing how kids remind us to reconnect with what truly matters? Chloe’s excitement for scripture has reignited my own faith journey, and I hope it sparks something in you, too.)
Since we’re starting with Genesis 1 and 2, here are three lessons I learned today that I hope inspire you, too!
Lesson 1: God Created Everything Out of Love
Genesis 1 opens with something remarkable: God created the world out of love. Not chaos, anger, or randomness, but pure, intentional love. And He didn’t stop there; He made humans in His image and likeness, giving us dignity, value, and purpose.
What this means for you: Chloe, you are part of God’s masterpiece. You are a reflection of God’s love, carefully and wonderfully made. Never forget how special you are.
(Moms, hindi ba sobrang relatable? Like God’s creation, everything we do—making meals, wiping away tears, creating a home—is done out of love. Let this remind you of how sacred your role is.)
Let’s Grow Together
Chloe, reading these chapters reminded me of something so beautiful: God’s love is everywhere, in everything. As we go through the Bible together, I pray you’ll see just how much you are loved and how your life fits into His incredible story.
I’ll be here every step of the way, sharing insights and answering questions. Tomorrow, we’ll explore what happens when things go wrong in God’s perfect creation—and how His love still shines through. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
Love always,
Ninang
Lesson 2: Rest Is Holy
On the seventh day, God rested. And not because He needed to, but to teach us the importance of balance. Rest is a sacred time to reflect on His goodness, recharge, and connect with Him.
What this means for you: Chloe, even when life gets busy with school or activities, make time for rest. It’s not just about taking a break—it’s about creating space for peace and gratitude in your heart.
(Mga moms, aminin—“Wala akong time magpahinga” is our go-to line, di ba? But God Himself rested, showing us that it’s not a luxury. It’s essential. Rest isn’t selfish. When we recharge, we are able to give more to the people we love.)
Lesson 3: We Are Made for Relationships
In Genesis 2, God saw that it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone, so He created Eve. This reminds us that we’re made for connection—to love, support, and grow with the people around us.
What this means for you: Chloe, cherish the people God has placed in your life—your family, friends, and everyone you meet. These relationships are gifts that remind us we’re never alone.
(Moms, minsan nakakalimutan natin, di ba? Relationships are where we see God’s love in action. Kaya kahit simpleng “kamusta ka?” or sharing a laugh with our kids can be moments of grace. Let’s not miss them.)
To Our Readers: Finding God in Every Part of Life
This journey isn’t just about Chloe and me; it’s about rediscovering how God’s love touches every part of our lives. As moms, we’re often at the center of many relationships—caring for our families, juggling responsibilities, and trying to keep our faith alive in the midst of it all.
If you’ve ever wanted to reconnect with your faith, this is your invitation. Let’s reflect on scripture, share insights, and grow together.
P.S. I’ve been exploring ways to align my faith with every aspect of life—including my financial goals. One resource I’ve found helpful is the Truly Rich Club, which connects faith with abundance. I’ll share more about this soon—stay tuned!
Let’s take the first step together, rediscovering God’s love one chapter at a time.
