Day 8: The Surrender of Abraham – Trusting God Even When It’s Hard (365 Steps with God)

On Day 8 of our Bible journey, we delve into Abraham’s surrender to God’s covenant, Job’s struggle with suffering, and the call to wisdom in Proverbs. Learn what it means to trust God even when His plans seem unclear.

A Quick Recap
On Day 7, we explored God’s covenant with Abram, where He promised to bless him with countless descendants and make him a great nation. This moment highlighted God’s unwavering faithfulness and His ability to fulfill His promises, no matter how impossible they may seem.
Through Abram’s story, we were reminded of the importance of trusting God’s timing and walking in faith. Even when the path ahead feels uncertain, God’s promises remain true, and His plans are always for our good.
Dear Chloe,
Hi, sweetheart!
Today, we read about one of the most important moments in the Bible: God’s covenant with Abraham. This story reminds us that trusting God’s plan can be hard, especially when things seem impossible. Like Abraham, we’re often asked to surrender control and let God lead.
From Job, we learn that even when life feels overwhelming, God’s presence is what we truly need. And in Proverbs, wisdom teaches us to embrace God’s guidance so we can walk securely in life.
There’s so much we can learn from these stories. Let’s dive into three lessons for today.
Lesson 1: Trusting God’s Timing
In Genesis 16–17, Abram and Sarai struggled to trust God’s promise of a child. Their attempt to take matters into their own hands by involving Hagar caused pain and division. Yet, God remained faithful, reaffirming His covenant and changing their names to Abraham and Sarah.
What This Means for You, Chloe:
Sometimes it feels like waiting for something good takes forever. But God’s timing is always perfect. Like Abraham and Sarah, we need to trust that God knows what He’s doing, even when we don’t understand.
For Moms:
Can you relate to Abram and Sarai? Sometimes we find ourselves asking God to hurry and answer our prayers already. Maybe you’re waiting for a financial breakthrough, a new opportunity, or even just peace in your home. Remember, God sees the bigger picture. His plans are always better than our shortcuts, so trust His timing, even when it feels like forever.
Walking with God in Surrender and Faith
A final thought before we wrap up:
Chloe, today’s stories remind us of one simple yet powerful truth: surrendering to God’s plan requires faith, even when it’s unclear or difficult. Abraham trusted God despite his age. Job clung to God even in suffering. And wisdom teaches us that God’s way is always the best way.
Sometimes we want answers, but more than that, we need to trust God’s presence and His plan. Trust Him, Chloe. He will always lead you in the right direction.
Love always,
Ninang

Lesson 2: Finding Comfort in Presence, Not Answers
In Job 5–6, Job’s friend, Eliphaz, tried to explain his suffering, but what Job needed wasn’t answers, it was compassion and presence. Job’s story reminds us that sometimes, just being there for someone is the best gift we can give.
What This Means for You, Chloe:
When your friends are sad or confused, you don’t always have to say the right thing. Sometimes, just being with them shows you care. God does this for us, too. He stays with us even when we don’t understand what’s happening.
For Moms:
Have you ever tried to comfort someone and felt like you needed to say the perfect thing? The truth is, sometimes people just need you to sit with them and listen. Don't overthink it! It’s the same for us when we’re struggling. We may want all the answers, but God shows His love by simply being with us in our confusion and pain. That’s enough to keep going.
Lesson 3: Listening to Wisdom’s Call
Wisdom is like a voice calling out to us, urging us to turn from foolishness and follow God’s ways. Those who listen will find security and peace, while those who ignore wisdom face calamity.
What This Means for You, Chloe:
Wisdom is like a friend telling you to make good choices. When you listen, life becomes easier and safer. Pay attention to the people and lessons God places in your life, they’re there to guide you.
For Moms:
Life is full of noise, isn’t it? Between parenting, work, and everything else, it’s hard to stop and listen. But wisdom is like God tapping us on the shoulder, saying, “Listen to Me.” When we pause and follow His guidance, we find peace and clarity. Let’s slow down and make room for His wisdom to lead us.

Looking Ahead
Tomorrow, we’ll discuss the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, a powerful lesson on God’s justice and mercy as He responds to sin and intercession. At the same time, Job continues to wrestle with his suffering, revealing deeper insights into faith and trust in the midst of trials. We’ll also reflect on Proverbs’ encouragement to seek wisdom and understanding as we walk in God’s ways.

To Our Readers: Trusting God’s timing and presence
Life often challenges our faith, whether it’s waiting for a prayer to be answered or finding peace in difficult moments. As we reflect on today’s stories, may we all grow in our trust in God’s perfect timing and His unchanging presence in our lives.
